TAO 2020

Welcome to Te Rito 2020

We’re excited to be working with Ō Tāne (young men) and Urutapu (young women) from Tāmaki and Selwyn College, as well as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Puau Te Moana Nui A Kiwa in Glen Innes to kick off TAO in 2020.

Key dates:

Monday 1st June – Sunday 14th June – Registrations are open through the online link

Tuesday 16th June – Students will be informed if they have been accepted onto the program

Friday 19th June – 6.00-7.30pm –Induction with whānau/students

Saturday 27th June – Sunday 28th June – Noho 1

Monday 29th June – Friday 7th August – 6 weeks online learning/weekly meetings

Saturday 8th August – Sunday 9th August – Noho 2

Monday 10th August – Friday 18th September 6 x weeks online learning/weekly meetings

Saturday 19th September – Sunday 20th September – Final Noho/Graduation

NB: School holidays – 6th – 17th July


Noho Marae:

This is held on a Saturday and Sunday with an overnight stay and is compulsory to attend the entire time. Health and Safety measures will be adhered to in relation to Level 2 restrictions. Noho marae comprises of challenging activities, team building, communication, project planning, and personal goal setting. There are 3 noho marae throughout the 12 months with the final one including a graduation evening for whanau and friends.


POU - The Online modules:

There are 12 online modules that we refer to as the Pou of our kaupapa. These include self-reflection, communication, building relationships, and much more. These are designed to be completed weekly and include a weekly assignment.


Coaching:

During the online learning blocks there will be a one-hour mentoring meeting hui held with all tauira to share what they're learning and to provide guidance and mentoring. The date time and place of this is to be confirmed. It will be held every week.


Power Projects:

During their participation, students will practice their leadership skills through the planning and execution of a Power Project. This will be done throughout the 12 weeks they are on TAO and will focus on making a difference for their peers and school. They will do this in groups to build trust, improve communication skills, and give them real-world learning and experience.

Expectations of Tauira:

  1. Attend all noho marae
  2. Complete weekly online Pou and assignments 100%
  3. Complete weekly mentoring calls/hui
  4. Complete your team passion project successfully
  5. Be honest and coachable
  6. Get into communication with Veeshayne or Tamati if there are any issues

Expectations of whānau:

  1. Attend the first whanau hui on 19th June 6-7.30pm
  2. First full day of the noho including the powhiri Saturday 27th June
  3. Drop your tauira off and collect them from all noho marae
  4. Volunteer at a minimum of 1 noho marae over the weekend to help wherever help is needed
  5. Provide baking and one savory dish at each noho
  6. Attend the final graduation evening with whanau and friends
  7. Support your tauira to keep up with weekly Pou and assignments

Expectations of Kura:

  1. Sponsorship for tauira to participate
  2. Provide a space for 1 weekend noho marae of the 3
  3. Provide a space for weekly mentoring hui 
  4. Use of vans at noho marae
  5. One point of contact in kura between kaimahi at mad ave and tauira
  6. Support for passion projects within schools
